Location:
Caiman is located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul 236 km from the capital Campo Grande and 36 km from the city of Miranda.

History:
Estância Miranda was built in 1912 by English investors and is one of the largest traditional farms in the Pantanal. It was devided among the owners in 1983 and from this division ‘Estância Caiman’ was formed in an area of 53.000 ha.

Transportation:
If you are arriving at the airport of Campo Grande and would like a ride to the Refúgio Ecológico Caiman (or v.v.) regular vans with air condition are offered on Thursdays and Sundays during the high season with departure at 12:30pm and 05:00pm. On departure from Caiman you leave at 06:00am or 10:30am. The trip takes about 4 hours with a 20min. Stop and is not included in the rate of the hotel stay.

Caiman has three comfortable lodges with different architectural designs, all integrated with the landscape.
These lodges have a total capacity of 57 people and offer the guests an opportunity to get to know the wonders of the Pantanal, with rustic comfort. Each lodge has its own independent infrastructure and is equipped with living room and pool. The individual rooms are cutfitted with air condition, ceilling fans and private bathrooms. Along with the 3 lodges, the Caiman also has additional structures used during tours. They are the retreats os Santa Voia and São Domingos. The infrastructures of both include a covered area with hammocks for sleeping as well as a bathromm and a kitchen. On the farm, the guests can count on na excellent support communication, with nurse on call, telephone center, fax, cellular phone antennas, motorized vehicles, radio system connecting the whole farm and the hotel, and insurance against personal and collective accidents.

Caiman offers its visitors a fantastic experience with nature. With many tours, there is a unique opportunity to discover the fauna, flora, and culture of the Pantanal. The weather determines which tours will happen in each season.
There are 2 daily activities, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. At night, visitors can watch na audiovisual presentation about the Pantanal or take a look at the animals at night.

Tours provided:
Trail hikes, Photo Safáris, Farm Tour, Canoe Trip, Alligator Feeding, Horseback Ride. Optional tour to Rio Arquidauana is provided with á min. Of 6 people. This is a boat trip down the Arquidauana River and to São Domingos Retreat outing 32 kms from the main lodge.

Tailor-made Optional Tours:
Cattle Drive - This is a very special outing since it involves a typical activity in the Pantanal, it is an experience accompanying the cowboys in their work routine with the cattle, driving hundreds of heads of cattle on a trip that takes more than one day. You will be orinted and euipped by the cowboys, spends a night in a hammock wit há narmed musket in a special camp which hás been planned for the comfort of the members of the drive. It hás a screened shed for the hammocks, bathrooms wit hshowers and a kitchen with a dining hall. To the sound of the guitar and sitting around a bonfore, the traveller rests to continue the next morning until the end of the journey. In the middle of the day the drive ends with the friendly company of the cowboys in a complete typical barbecue.
Duration: From the afternoon of the first day, overnight in the camp and the morning of the second day.

Important: The drive is arranged by previous consultation with a minimum Of 6 people.

Research Projects in the Pantanal:
Caiman has also become known as a reference place for the development of scientific research.
This is due in part to several research projects that took place at Caiman even before the hotel was opened. The Blue Macaw Project and the Jaguar Project.
