JUMA LODGE AMAZON

ArrowGo Location:
Juma Lodge is located in a remote and relatively untouched jungle. It is located 100 km southeast of Manaus and can be reached in approxomately three hours by boat, van and boat again. The trip can also be made by seaplane (25min upon request.)

Accomodation:
There are 8 standard huts facing the jungle and three special huts facing the lake and sitting among the treetops at 15 meters above the water, located in na exclusive área of the lodge, offering total privacy. All apartments are comfortable, with private bath room, fan and balcony. The lodge was designed to be fully integrated to the surrounding forrest, where the guests are able to feel real enchantment and mystery of the Amazon. It is built on solid ground, over stilts, facing the silent waters of the Juma Lake.

Important observations: Apartments are equipped with fan, Individual bath room. No hot water.

Restaurant:
The restaurant is also built on stilts. The tables (and benches) are long and curved, creatively carved out of a light blond wood. The meals are in a buffet-style, with regional and international cuisine.

Reconnaissance tours, Dawn watching, Jungle hiking, Around the lodge, Alligator spotting, Meeting of the waters, Piranha fishin, Overnight stay in the jungle (sleeping in hammocks), Visiting local natives.

Temperature:
Due to the proximity to the Equator Line (Manaus is at latitude 03º S) it is always hot in the Amazon region, with a year round temperature of +27C (80º F).

When to go:
The Amazon region can be visited at any time of the year. However, there are two distinct seasons that should be taken into consideration when making the decision:

Flood season - from march to august, when water level rises up to 20meters (66 feet). This is the idela season to visit the Amazon flooded land, known as Igapó, in all its beauty.

Dry season - from September to february, the level of the rivers reach its lowest point, decreasing the space for fish and catching them easier. It is also easier to spot alligators.

Vaccines:
As the lodge is located in the jungle, yellow fever and tetanus vaccines are recommanded, though not mandatory.

Communication:
The lodge is equipped with both regular and satélite telephone.

Important for guests:
It is important to bring swimming suits, t-shirts, two pairs of tennis shoes, hats, long-sleeved shirts, long pants for trekking, insect repellant, sun block, rain coat, films, câmera, binoculars and flaslight.

How to get there:
All transfers are contracted services with full security and comfort. The boats have shelters to those who want t ostay out in the sun, and life jackets to all passengers. The vehicles use don the roads are in perfect conditions.

Step 1 (20min): From Manaus Ceasa Harbor to Careiro Village - Private motor boat. During this section the boat góes through the meeting of the waters.
Step 2 (40 min): From Careiro Village to Araçá River - Private Van on a paved road
Step 3 (2 hours): From Araçá River to Juma Lodge - Private motor boat. This section is the beginning of the Amazon experience, going through creeks, flooded lands and inside the rainforest for the first time.

Baggage allowance:
Guests can only bring 10kg of luggage per person (they can leave the luggage at the Juma office – we don’t charge for that – or at the hotel in manaus.

Tucano Package 5 days/4 nights:

Day 1: Departure from your hotel in Manaus aprox. 07.00 am. The trip takes three hours via speed boat, van and speed boat again. During your trip you might encounter some pink dolphins on the way. Enjoy your first contact with the jungle and observe the giant water lily, the majestic trees (Brazil Nuts and Sumaúmas), the birds and the local communities. At Juma Lodge a welcome drink prepared with exotic fruits awaits you. Lunch, a creative fusion between international and Amazon cuisine is then served. The afternoon activity is a reconnaissance tour through the igarapés (Amazonian Creeks), and the igapós (flooded forest) in motorized canoes. Return to the Juma lodge. At night go out in a canoe ride to observe the night fauna and meet alligators, frogs and brds. Stay alert to the mysterious sounds of the forest and the starry sky.

Day 2: Breakfast with typical fruits and regional food. Leave for the jungle hike. Once inside the Amazon forest feel its charm and greatness. All tours are led by a lodge guide with great knowlegde of the área. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we will go out fishing and learn more about the indigenous species of the Amazon (piranha, peacock bass) While enjopying the sunset, return to Juma, observing the Capped Herons and the Comorant transform the landscape into na amazing show. Dinner will be complemented by the fish you cought earlier, cooked the Amazon way.

Day 3: Early in the morning we will leave for a sunrise excursion, witnessing the transformation of the dark water of the Juma River into a mirror of the sights and sounds of the waking birds leaving their nests for another day. Breakfast. Visit to the house os a local native to learn more about their fascinating culture, including the manual production of manioc flour a nd the handicrafting of wallets and shoes out of rubber sap. Lunch at the Juma Lodge. Travel on a paddle canoe, just like the locals, while contemplating the dense vegetation, the height and width of the trees, the bird´s and monkey´s sounds. Everything is so amazing!

Day 4: Breakfast. Be prepared for a full day adventure into the forest with short hikes and instruction in jungle survival! Learn more about the forest, such as how its helps mankind by supplying medicinal plants, food, fresh water and even assorted products like pipes, incenses, oils, etc. In a pleasant site eat a baked fish caught by you, accompanied by manioc flour and fresh vegetables. In the afternoon rest in hammocks, as is the local indian custom. Enjoy venturing out to gather (and eat) typical fruits such as Brazil Nuts, cupuaçu, and açaí. Return to the lodge

Day 5: Return to Manaus. On the way back see a Sumaúma, the largest tree of the Amazon. Antother important stop to see the meeting of the waters, the spot where the muddy waters of the Solimões River and the black waters of the Rio Negro River run side by side, without mixing, to form the great Amazon River. By request, the guide will take you to a dive spot, where you can feel for yourself the 80C (14º F) diffenrence in the temperature between the two rivers. A truly unique experience. Arrive at 11:30 am at the airport or at your hotel in Manaus.
